General Dentistry FAQs
How often should I visit the dentist?
It's recommended to visit the dentist every six months for regular check-ups. However, your dentist may suggest a different frequency based on your specific dental health needs.
What happens during tooth extraction?
Tooth extraction involves removing a tooth from its socket in the jawbone. It's performed under local anaesthesia to ensure comfort, and our expert oral surgery team handles complex cases to ensure high standards of care.
Can general dentistry help with tooth pain?
Yes, general dentistry addresses the root cause of tooth pain, whether it's a cavity, gum disease, or another issue. Early treatment can relieve pain and prevent further complications.
What services does a family dentist provide?
Family dentists offer a range of services, including routine check-ups, cleans, preventive care, restorative treatments such as fillings and crowns, oral hygiene education, and guidance on diet. We provide care for all ages, ensuring continuity and personalised attention for the entire family.
How do you handle anxious or nervous children?
At Parkview Dental Centre, we take extra care to ensure every child feels comfortable and safe. Our friendly team uses gentle communication, positive reinforcement, and a calm environment to ease any worries. Parents are welcome to stay with their child during visits, and we take time to explain each step in a fun, reassuring way. Our goal is to make dental care a pleasant experience that builds lifelong trust and comfort.
Why are dental hygiene appointments important?
Dental hygiene appointments focus on cleaning your teeth and gums, removing plaque and tartar build-up, which can lead to gum disease. They are crucial for maintaining healthy gums and a beautiful smile.
At what age should a child first visit a family dentist?
Children should have their first dental visit around six months, typically when the first teeth appear. Early visits help familiarise children with the dental environment, establish good oral hygiene habits, and allow the dentist to monitor growth and detect potential issues early.
What should I expect during a general dental check-up?
During a check-up, your dentist will examine your teeth, gums, and mouth for any signs of problems, such as cavities or gum disease. They may also recommend x-rays to get a deeper look at your oral health.

Friday 5th June I had appointment with Lesley the hygienist, I was a bit worried about having a new hygienist. Debbie and Louise the wonderful receptionists assured me I would be fine. Lesley was fantastic I felt so comfortable and completely at ease. Thank you Lesley and The receptionists they were all brilliant.😃
diane hilder I’m a very nervous patient and just moved to the area, so was dreading my first visit here. However Mr Jacob McKenzie was very caring, patient in explaining everything he was doing and soon put me at ease. The reception staff are also very welcoming.
Amanda Good 10/10 dental practice- receptionist's are polite, friendly & very caring. They are always so nice to me even when I’m in abit of a panic about having to book in for treatment. AMAZING front of house team! . Then there is Alex, the most amazing dentist- I appreciate Alex’s care, professionalism & patience he shows me when I visit from a check up to dental work needing to be done. Alex is such a calming presence who makes you feel at ease & not silly when I’m expressing how worried or anxious I feel when I have to have a filling or if I just have a niggling feeling somethings not right, he listens & re assures me completely. Massive thanks to Alex for having the patients of a saint when dealing with me (always anxious) & the whole team for looking after me & the family 10/10 team!! :)
